What can happen when hundreds of people step away from their normal routines and spend a morning working together for their community?
A lot.
On Wednesday, September 9, United Way Blackhawk Region's Day of Caring will bring volunteers from across the Blackhawk Region together to roll up their sleeves and help local nonprofits tackle projects that make a real difference.
Last year, 220 volunteers showed up.
They gave their time, their energy and their talents to organizations doing important work throughout our community. This year, we're inviting businesses, organizations, coworkers and neighbors to join us and make an even greater impact.
More Than a Volunteer Day
For many nonprofits, there is never a shortage of work that needs to be done. What is often in short supply is the manpower, time or resources to get it all done.
That's where Day of Caring comes in.
Volunteers may spend the morning landscaping, painting, organizing, cleaning, packing supplies, completing improvement projects or lending an extra set of hands wherever they're needed.
A project that might sit on a nonprofit's to-do list for months can be completed in a matter of hours when a team of volunteers shows up ready to help.
That's the power of community in action.
You Don't Need a Big Team to Make a Big Difference
One of the most important things to know about Day of Caring is that everyone can participate.
You don't need a team of 20 employees.
Bring two people. Bring four. Bring your entire department. Come with coworkers, friends or colleagues who want to spend a morning doing something meaningful.
Whether you're part of a large company, a small business, an organization or simply someone who wants to give back, there is a place for you.
Day of Caring is also an opportunity for teams to get outside their normal workday and experience something together.
You'll work side by side. Meet people doing important work in our community. See the impact of your efforts firsthand. And probably have some fun along the way.
Local People Helping Local Organizations
Day of Caring supports nonprofits, schools, service clubs and community organizations throughout Rock County, Wisconsin and northern Winnebago County, Illinois.
That local connection matters.
When you volunteer, you're helping organizations that serve the same communities where we live, work, raise families and do business.
And while one morning may seem small, hundreds of people each contributing a few hours adds up quickly.
It's a reminder that creating a stronger community doesn't always require a grand gesture.
Sometimes it starts with showing up.
